Mr.
Muroro
Dziruno
Muroro Dziruni is
director of Connecting Africa, a nascent ICT for development
organisation, engaged in strategic application of modern ICT within a
socio-economic and technological sustainable development environment.
The organisation is working across three ICT spaces namely ICT policy
and advocacy, ICT project design and implementation and ICT development
consultancy.
He brings to the
board years of experience, working within technology and development
and having spent 8 years in a regional NGO as head of Communications,
Fundraising and ICTs. Within his ICT for development mandate he was
involved with ICTs from a research perspective and project development
and implementation particular emphasis on making ICTs work for resource
poor communities.
He is a enthusiast of
open source as a technology choice, knowledge management within
organisations, low cost computing and connectivity alternatives for
resource poor and creation of an enabling environment through informed
policy options that make it possible for technology to be applied in
sustainable development practices.
His background is a
BSC Honours degree in Engineering and an MBA from Zimbabwe and a
E-Management qualification from Wits University. He has set of 1 and a
half year old triplets (two girls and one boy), his joy and passion and
is married to his wife Beaula.
Mr.
Mike Gahagan
Mike Gahagan has a
BCom (Hons), with distinction, from Rhodes University and is a CA(SA).
In 1976, he joined
Arthur Andersen & Co, and was responsible for audit and special
investigations for the Manufacturing, Banks and Financial Services
specialist groups.
In 1982, Mike joined Liberty Holdings, reporting directly to Donald
Gordon. In 1984, he joined Barlow Rand and held various senior
positions as Chief Executive of both listed and unlisted companies. He
was a main board Executive Director until he left to join Hunt Leuchars
& Hepburn Ltd in 1994, where he was responsible for the timber
holdings group, with its ultimate unbundling and sale. In 1996, Mike
was appointed an executive director of Imperial Holdings, Ltd,
responsible for, inter alia, motor retail, insurance and banking
interests. In September 1997, he acquired a major holding in IOTA
Investment Services (formerly The Pride Group) and formed IOTA
Financial Services Ltd, which listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange
on 20 April 1998, and served as CEO until August 2001.
In December 2001 he
acquired ARCAY Private Financial Services and became Chief Executive
Officer.
Mikes’ interests outside business include education. He is
Chairman of the Board of Patrons of AIESEC in South Africa, a
“not for profit” international association focused
on the development of future business leaders who are currently engaged
in tertiary education. He has been involved with AIESEC since 1972. He
has been a member of the Board of Advisors to Rhodes
University’s Business School since 2000. He has been a
part-time lecturer at Wits Business School since 1980 and, from 1996,
on the faculty of the Graduate Institute of Management and Technology
(GIMT) and Henley Management College, Southern Africa.
